Chemistry

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

Chemistry is to learning the chemical composition, structural organisation, and properties of elements and compounds.  The Department of Chemistry strives to provide high-quality chemical education, cultivate talent, and hone skills to produce visionary leaders and game-changers in Chemical Sciences.  The department’s strengths are its innovative, learning-focused teaching practices and its modern, industry-oriented added curriculum, supported by a business interface.

Objectives

  • To create a foundation in chemistry by teaching chemical principles, rules, theories, processes, and reactions.
  • To provide a thorough education in the fundamental theoretical concepts, experimental methods, and future directions of chemistry research.
  • To enhance laboratory skills in experimentation, documentation, interpretation, and time management.
  • To instruct students on the interdisciplinarity of chemistry and the integration of mathematics, physics, and other disciplines to solve chemical problems.
  • To advance perceptions and appreciation of scientific procedures as a form of inquiry leads to research.
  • To provide an employment-based quality education that assists students in identifying, developing, and achieving their professional goals in the field of Chemistry.
  • To provide quality education and instil cultural values in the students to support our country and society’s future.
  • To foster an environment that encourages faculty to engage in innovative research projects and achieve excellence in publication and teaching.

Careers:

Chemistry careers are lucrative because most manufactured goods involve chemical processes and other relevant operations.  Chemists examine various materials to understand existing compounds better, produce new ones, and discover proper new chemical processes.  The undergraduate program in Chemistry prepares graduates to be competitive in postgraduate programs or employment in academia, industry, and government.  After earning a bachelor’s degree, most students enrol in master’s degree programmes leading to the doctorate.  Chemistry graduates can pursue highly rewarding careers in education, manufacturing, energy, health care, agriculture, forensics, environment,  biochemist, etc.
